My current work brings together consciously and subconsciously impressions of landscape and nature in the Peak District and surrounding areas. Marks play across a first minimalist structure from its centred hidden space, mapping out territories and networks of line and surface texture. Cuts, tears, folds and scraffito make up this imagery of animal trails, sheep cuts, erosion and rock formations.
Some areas are simple and expressive, others condensed and complex. Using the clays natural qualities to translate movement across landscape the organic structures move and grow. The ceramic pieces are constructed from paper clay, treated with stains, natural pigments and oxides. I have also included images of print and sketches from primary sources.
